Aistear: The Farm
This months Aistear theme was 'The Farm'. We have been really enjoying learning about and playing with the animals.
At the role play station we have been working in the Farmers Market, selling and buying all the products produced in the farm such as eggs, milk, fruit and vegetables and cheese.
In small world we played in the farm using small figures and small toy animals. We milked the cows and ploughed the fields, we made the hay bales and collected the eggs from the hens. We even acted out the story of 'Farmer Duck' and 'Pig in the Pond' during our time at this station!
Another fun station was the puzzles and jigsaws. This was lots of fun, making the jigsaws and playing the games with our group all about the farm animals.
At the sand station we hid some animals and asked our friends to find the animals. We also sorted the farm animals and the zoo animals into seperate buckets.
Finally at junk art we had a very busy time, making the items that the children would use at the small world station. We painted the fields, made the trees, created a pond and even made some animals for them to play with. Once this was finished we decided to make papier maché animal masks. They are a work in progress and we look forward to finishing them soon.
Incorporating our theme of the month, we did some planting of tomato seeds with our teacher. We learned that we can grow our own food at home just like the farmers on the farm. Maybe one day we will supply fruit and vegetables to the Green Door Market.
We also learned about Faritrade. We found out that some farmers in other countries and paid fairly for their food and that when we buy items with the fairtrade sign on them that we make sure that the farmer is treated kindly and gets the correct money.
What a busy but very fun month!
